There's a whole world to explore

Another in the very popular series of historical strategy games which includes Anno 1503 and Anno 1701, this is perhaps one of the finest city builders around and certainly worth adding to your collection if you like The Settlers or SimCity. This one is similar to other games in the series and sees you thrust into the murky past where you're charged with building up your empire from nothing. You'll need to engage in complex trade agreements, play the diplomatic game, engage in spying, explore the unknown and construct everything from houses to sea walls and castles as your empire expands. The game itself is a clever blend of real-times strategy and simulation, and you'll need to keep your wits about you if you're to succeed, as there's a lot of juggling required here. This Gold pack also includes the Venice expansion, and which gives you a new location to explore, with new trade opportunities, new ships and a few other extras to play around with. As far as historical strategy games go, this has to be one of the best. The period is recreated lovingly, with a staggering attention to detail that really makes you feel as if you are there. The game is also incredibly deep, with loads of options to play around with, but which is highly accessible whether you're a genre newcomer or an old hand. This is thanks to the slick and very intuitive interface which makes almost any activity a breeze. There's an almost endless variety of things to do, so you'll be playing for ages, and if you have any interest in history or strategy games, this is a must have.
