Drink the milk!

Sort of like a minimalist take on the classic adventure Myst, Bad Milk is a bizarre, baffling but undeniably bold experience that deserves to be sought out by anyone who likes their games to be original and compelling. It's not the longest game in the world, and should be completed by most players in just a couple of hours, but while it lasts, it's a wonderful ride. The rather bonkers setup finds you just having drunk some expired milk, and now you're dead as a result. However, you've got one shot at reincarnation, so now you have to find your way through a mystifying and rather grim maze, which is just jam packed with puzzles. These puzzles form the meat of the game, and there's a wide range of types and styles here, all of which encourage experimentation and lateral thinking and which helps to keep you on your toes. There's some terribly clever ones, such as those which are based entirely around audio, and it's surprising how much such a short game can pack in. Bad Milk is not going to be for everyone, but if you're the sort of player who likes to be kept guessing and who enjoys surreal but highly imaginative games, then you're going to have a blast here. Bad Milk manages to suck you in right from the start, with its twisted setup but then keeps you playing thanks to its startling world, and highly compelling puzzles which are both challenging and satisfying. There are some minor issues, but the minimalist design work, immersive audio and visuals and engrossing puzzle work all combine to make a fine and memorable experience.
