Armchair hunters rejoice, for this game provides all the thrill of the chase without the need to actually go outside in the cold for days on end without the opportunity for a shower. Well, it tries to offer this, but whether it actually succeeds is another question. Players are given the chance to explore the wilds of Arkansas, Nebraska and California in their pursuit of turkey, grouse, pheasants and a number of other innocent creatures. Armed with your choice of shotgun and accompanied by your trusty canine companion, you must use your tracking skills to find your prey, using decoys and calls to draw them in before blasting them out of the sky. Bird Hunter is certainly realistic to an extent, offering a true taste of the hunting experience and for gamers looking for an alternative to high octane shooters like Doom, this is worth spending some time with, requiring as it does patience and care. However, the dull and poorly-detailed graphics, minimal sound effects and slow gameplay are likely to put most players off. The controls too are somewhat off, with imprecise aiming which makes shooting a hit and miss affair and most players are likely to head back to the faster paced games pretty quickly. There is certainly more fun to be found in blasting demons than ducks.
