It's chicken plucking time!
The Chicken Invaders series has provided some surprisingly entertaining Space Invaders-style blasting action over the years, thanks mainly to its refreshing sense of humor and numerous riffs on popular culture. This fourth installment is pretty much business as usual but still manages to provide a simple but enjoyable ride. There's little in the way of setup here, only a brief description of how the world is once again under threat from the hordes of chicken invaders from the stars, so it falls to our nameless hero to strap in once more and step up to the challenge of blasting their squawking feathery behinds from the skies before it's all too late. What follows is a classic vertically scrolling shooter, like Raiden or a million others, where all you need to worry about is shooting down those damn chickens. You've got some slick weapons to help you out, boss battles to fight and there are even some appearances from some classic science fiction heroes to spot. Chicken Invaders 4 is certainly not a complex game of depth and strategy but for when you just want to shoot chickens, it undeniably delivers the goods. The visuals are bright and charming, with some nice design work, especially on the bosses, while the audio is packed with squawks and other such sound effects which never fail to bring a smile to your face. The blasting action is simple and uncomplicated but blessed with smooth controls and a good sense of challenge, although this might not be for the truly hardcore shooter fan. For more casual gamers though, it's a blast.
