Demon's Forge

Adventure 1987 Dos Dosbox Mastertronic Graphical IF

Interactive fiction where death is omnipresent!

Demon's Forge is quite the unforgiving game, really bent on punishing you! It's weird that it should be spawned by none other than Brian Fargo, one half of the team that also worked on Grim Fandango. Oh, wait, an obsession with death? Nope, not at all, it's in Brian's repertoire of obsessions, scrape that! So, while the ideas of this game would later get a hint of humor and a portion of laughter as well as grimness and a Hell that is as mundane as every other office ever, you can't but find this game's utter mean spirited nature quite, hmm, aggravating! But more aggravating than the need to start and restart, is the fact that the parser is one helluva mighty hard to work with one! There's really not that many combinations of words you can use to make it do what you want. But then again, at the very least you'll most of the time know what you want to do, as the puzzles are not crazy hard. What they are, however, is pretty easily turned upside down by the fact that if you don't get them right the first time, chances are pretty high you'll have to repeat a whole section to get back to that particular bit! Only for those that can take a beating, for sure!
