Become a grandmaster and sharpen your chess skills!
Grandmaster Chess is one of those serious chess simulators. Don't be scared though, graphically the game is well looking for its time, having been released back in 92. But even so, it manages to create well looking tables with distinct, sharp chess pieces. But the great thing about it and the reason you might consider it as your go to game even after so may years is its lack of obnoxious options, that only a few might ever think to use, it's very slim system requirements (so you can play it on your ageing machines) and its no nonsense kind of approach. Basically, you select a table, a color for the pieces you want to play with and the level of difficulty of the AI and get to it. If you want aid, you can get it, but don't expect nothing too complex and tons of text, the PC will just show you what it would do in your stead, or show you when you're about to make a mistake. The AI is as competent as you want it to be, and it can really put on a fight. Yeah, you might miss the diverse list of chess playing personalities that Chessmaster games sport, but on the other hand you don't need to0 install in excess of 2 GB of data on your machine. So, overall Grandmaster Chess is is well designed, simple enough but fully featured and also a good chess companion. Which is why it can be your go to chess game today as it was the day it was released.
