Gremlins

Arcade 1984 Dos Dosbox Atari Single screen Action based

Minimalist arcade action game with...Gremlins!

Gremlins is an action adventure, a very minimalist game. It was released in 84, and, for sure, it could have been a bit more graphically superior, but, for some reason it never evolved past the black screen and the characters and the objects you get to interact with. This minimalism can be great at times, but after a while it just feels cheap. Anyway, gameplay wise, what you do in the game is try to battle the enemies that come at you, while making sure that you pick up the new weapons and don't get hit. That's about it. There is not much story (unless you read the manual) and the game, as I said, is pretty unimpressive after you find what it wants from you. The fact, though is that it's playable and it can be quite involving, but I'm not sure you'll want to go back to it after one playthrough. So, yeah, it's worth playing, but on the other hand, going for a game such as Caste Wolfenstein will bring you pretty much the same kind of gameplay, with added 2D top down exploration, which just adds another dimension to it.
