Explore weird new worlds
The first in a pair of modern day point-and-click adventures (the second being An Unexpected Intermission), this is a fine tribute to games like Monkey Island and Space Quest and if you have fond memories of such things, you should try this out. The game's main appeal is its bonkers sense of humor, which should appeal to lovers of Guybrush Threepwood and his adventures, but the puzzling elements are also well done and which make this a solid all round experience. The game takes place in a well-designed alternate reality, where the ion drive was invented in 1812 by James Watts and which subsequently allowed humanity to explore the stars rather rapidly. Of course, with such grand endeavors come hazards, not least of which is the Kribbs, an alien race which required the creation of the Space Police to protect humanity. You play a rather silly police captain who must investigate an SOS signal from a crashed ship and reveal the mystery behind it all. Gameplay is classic point-and-click stuff, with the main focus being on exploration and the solving of numerous puzzles. However, what helps the game stand out is its sheer madness, with our brave captain offering plenty of humorous commentaries on the events as they unfold, and which prove to be the main highlight. The puzzles are also well done, although they might be a tad illogical for some, but this does add to the game's appeal in some ways. The visuals are also quite lush and you can adjust the difficulty ti suit your taste, which also scores it a few bonus points and which helps to make this a fine romp.
