If you want a true zombie-themed survival horror experience that brings to mind classics like Resident Evil and Zombi, then Project Zomboid is for you. It's a truly harrowing and intense isometric adventure that really gives you a great sense of what it must be like to live through the apocalypse. It's not an easy game and it is still in development so there are a lot of features not yet implemented but if you're prepared to stick with it and are after some serious zombie-themed fun, then this is a good investment. At the moment, the game is essentially one big zombie-infested sandbox where you'll explore, scavenge and do anything it takes to survive, while all around you other players are trying to do the same. There's a large world to explore with lots of things to scavenge and of course hundreds of zombies running around trying to rip your brains out and to add to the realism you also have to deal with things like boredom and depression along with hunger and thirst. There's plenty to keep you busy, from sneaking around while looting, to fishing, cooking, carpentry and trapping so you're never likely to run out of things to do. Although it's early days, Project Zomboid is already showing a lot of promise. There are many great ideas already implemented and there are few other survival games which capture the tension and terror of a zombie apocalypse as this one. The visuals are simple but stark and bleakly realistic, which adds much to the atmosphere but it's the variety of activities and the sheer nervous exhaustion that comes from playing that make this such a winner. Definitely one to watch.
