Rayman is back and better than ever
Rayman is something of a legend in the platforming genre, standing comfortably alongside Sonic and Mario as a bona fide hero. Rayman Legends is the sequel to Rayman Origins and helps to cement the loveable star's position in gaming's hall of fame, as this one is a cracking little game. The story picks up after the previous one, with Rayman emerging from a century-long sleep only to find the villain he thought he had defeated, the Magician, having returned and who has brought new nightmares into the world. The princess has also been kidnapped so it falls to Rayman and his chums to step in and save the day. Gameplay-wise, this is similar to its predecessor, being a side-scrolling platformer where up to four people can play simultaneously, each controlling a different character, and with a number of powerups to collect as you run and bounce your way through the levels. Alongside the standard platform levels, there are timed sections and rhythm levels which feature humorous covers of popular tunes. There really isn't much that can be said to be wrong with Rayman Legends. Although the gameplay isn't overly innovative, it's simply so much fun to play that it's difficult to resist its charms. It's undeniably gorgeous to look at, with some superb design work and use of color that just leaps off the screen. The gameplay too is just hugely entertaining, especially when played with friends, while the soundtrack is as charming as the visuals and which serves to make this a must play for any platform fan.
