Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed

Puzzle 2004 Windows THQ Cartoon Adventure style

Scooby don't!

Although you probably can't expect too much from a kids game based on the classic cartoon character of Scooby-Doo, even this movie tie-in proves to be of interest to only the most undiscerning of fans. It suffers from overly simplistic gameplay and a very basic storyline which is unlikely to keep many players interested for long, so if you do try this out with your kids, expect a few complaints. The game is loosely based on the movie of the same name and sees our hero and his chums attending the grand opening of a criminology museum when the Pterodactyl Ghost suddenly appears, steals the costumes of other monsters and then swears vengeance on Scooby. There are sixteen levels to play through here, all of which are based closely on the film, and which variously require you to search for clues as to the Ghost's location, set up traps, use disguises or try to avoid the monsters which are on the loose. The whole thing is essentially a collection of mini games told via various perspectives, and while this approach could have worked well enough if the games had been enjoyable. Unfortunately, however, what's on offer here is just far too simplistic, even when considering the target market of young children. The game is certainly appealing enough in its visuals, with some nice interpretations of the film, but when you get into the gameplay, you really discover that there's no substance under the surface. None of the games are very compelling, requiring little more than a bit of button mashing, so really, you're better off with some of Scooby's animated escapades instead.
