Looking for the cure

This is a modern take on the classic rogue-like genre as defined by the original Rogue and other games such as Hack, and stands as a great addition this specialist group. This one has evolved quite a lot since its inception, taking on feedback from early followers and now provides pretty much everything you could hope for in a rogue-like. The basic goal of the game remains much the same as earlier titles, charging you with exploring and surviving over thirty dungeon-style levels, which are presented in cool, sci-fi, old-school fashion. There are of course dozens of monsters, traps, puzzles and treasures to encounter along the way as you struggle to find a cure to a mysterious plague, and this is where the game really shines. There's a lot of character customization options to play around with, with several different player characters to choose from, oodles of weapons to try your hand with, over 150 enemies to battle, psionic powers to master and a whole lot more. There's a lot of randomess in level generation and such-like but fortunately the game never feels unfair, and instead if you die, which you will, it's likely your own fault. The variety of room types is extensive also, and adds much to the fun, putting you on the edge as you explore further, as you never know what's around the next corner. Visuals are as simple as ever for this kind of game but are certainly effective and decently done, while sound is of a similar standard. If you haven't played a rogue-like before then this is a good place to start, and if you are an old hand, then you're in for a good time.
