Borderlands is back!
If there's one thing that Telltale does well, it's interactive stories based on classic properties. After having turned their attention to Monkey Island, Walking Dead and Back to the Future, this one focuses on the classic shooter series, Borderlands, and turns out to be surprisingly successful. It's got everything you'd expect from a Telltale game, with a strong focus on storytelling and decision making and combines it with the series' signature humor and visual style. As usual, this is a five episode set which takes place after Borderlands 2 and follows the hi-jinx of two adventurers, a con artist and a wannabe hero, as they become unwilling partners in their efforts to get back some cash they think is theirs. What follows is a wild ride involving gangsters, bounty hunters and all sorts of other nefarious characters which see you exploring another side of Pandora. The gameplay will be familiar if you've played any other Telltale games, with the main focus being on following the story and making decisions which then affect how the story unfolds. This is very different in terms of style to Walking Dead or Game of Thrones, lacking the high drama and serious tone of these games, but it makes up for it with sheer vibrancy and zest. The humor is generally well done, with good laugh-out loud moments mixed with genuine pathos and some very intriguing decisions. The game scores highly with its visuals too, which match their inspiration well, and although the series gets off to a bit of a slow start, it ends up being a fine addition to any adventure collection.
