The Horde

Action 1994 Dos Dosbox Crystal Dynamics Humorous

A horde of gluttons attack: defend the crops!

The Horde is a top down strategic game, a sort of base defense game, but a fairly cool one, storywise. In the universe of the game, there are very gluttonous baddies, that want nothing more than to devour an entire crop of foods in no more than just a small amounts of time. The local king appoints you as the local savior of the crops, and thus, from a top down perspective, you will engage in trying to save the crops from the attacks. You basically play to get as many points as possible, and these points are awarded to you by counting the number of villagers and the number of crops that survive each invasion, each level/season. In terms of the tyle, the game looks a bit like a 16bit era top down action/role playing game, with enough detail on the tiles to not give you pause. However, the puzzle like/strategic build of the game is much better suited for short bursts of play, rather than for longer sessions. Still, The Horde is a pretty cool game, at times very busy, still very playable. Download Food Force for a different take on food related gaming, with a more strategic upbringing.

Great blend of strategy and action

The Horde is a splendid action adventure game (similar to pc game Dink Smallwood) that succesfully combines elements of action and strategy into a beautiful mix. The game revolves around a cow herder boy Chauncey who, by complete accident saves the Kings life and is suddenly a land owner with a title as a sign of gradittude. However, the land is under constant attack by "The Horde" and our poor Chauncey has to defend his property from them. The game has two fases. The first is the strategic part, in which he has to build a town and defenses, and in the next, action part, he has to fight back the Horde with a huge sword and some magical items. The story already had me going, but the gameplay made me love the game from scene one. The game has really good graphics, detail and animation but what really stands out is the music in the game. It's fantastic and perfectly fits for a game like this, escpecially in the part where the Horde attacks. This game is tons of fun, with a innovative premise and cool gameplay. Great for all ages! So go ahead and download it quickly.
