Beautifully drawn platformer with stiff controls

Akimbo: Kung-Fu Hero puts you in the shoes (actually, bear feet!) of little Akimbo, a little protagonist that reminds of Tarzan, only if Tarzan had been of Chinese/Japanese provenance. What I'm most fond about when it comes to this game is the style of drawings that make up the backgrounds. The game plays mostly as your regular left to right platformer, but some of the levels seem to have been drawn by hand. The graphic style feels a bit like some of the drawing books from the late 80s and 90s but they do clash with the pseudo 3D drawing of the characters which seems to be tributary to the art style and techniques of SNES era games, particularly to the Donkey Kong Land series. I do recommend this game just for the graphics (backgrounds) alone, so if you are an European who grew with the drawing books, or story books with pictures of the 80s and early 90s, this game might remind you of that particular art style. Don't expect much of a challenge though, this game wanted to be more of a Zen type experience I think, only if it didn't end up frustrating you so often, with stiff controls and some aggravatingly badly placed enemies that kill you on the spot. However, you can have a 20 minute go and be reminded of your childhood books with luscious hand drawings. And for that alone it's worth the trouble.
