CGA style, minimalist sidescroller adventure
The early days of sidescrolling were pretty interesting. Most developers had very little to rely on technology wise and thus, the games had to have an edge, but one that was quite hard to achieve. This one achieves it by making the action as puzzly as possible. However, what that translates to in here is a constant lookout for keys and for other such trinkets, before heading to the door. Graphically, the game was released in the heyday of the 4 color palette spectrum. One of the colors that was the staple of the period was magenta, that God awful intense pink, not quite pink, nor blue, nor red. But, as far as having a goal and a character to see that goal done with, it has got what it takes. And so, all things considered Arctic Adventure is as playable as you could imagine. Sure, for 91 a lot more could have been done, but you have to work within the limitations to enjoy it. Similarly, download GoJoe, just as minimalist, but still sufficiently fun, and also more sprawling than this one here.
