Run away!

Druuna might share a couple of similarities with another well known video gaming heroine, Lara Croft, but unfortunately, in terms of gameplay this is a far cry from the best of the Tomb Raider games. It's a third person adventure that features some striking imagery but which is let down by a plethora of problems and which makes it best avoided. The idea here is that a deadly virus is on the loose, turning people into vicious monsters and the only hope is the mysterious (and very buxom) heroine, Druuna, with the answers to the current disaster locked away in her mind. What follows is a third person adventure which takes the player through the chaos of a futuristic city, exploring, solving the occasional puzzle and playing through quick time events galore. The game is based on an Italian comic book series, taking its inspiration from the mind of creator Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri, but unless you are a die hard fan of his work, then it's unlikely you're going to find much in the way of entertainment here. The game had the potential to be interesting, but as soon as you fire it up, you realize it's all a bit wobbly. The graphics aren't bad, considering their age, with some nice design work, but they are let down by the occasional slip into ugliness. However, it's when you start playing that things really become noticeable. The controls are awful, being clumsy and awkward, the puzzle elements are almost non-existent as is any real gameplay, while the music is grating and the interface and save game system just abysmal. All in all, one to avoid.
