When I first about the title of the game, I thought that this would be another bad adult-themed game, which, thank God, is not. Elvira: Mistress Of The Dark is a mix of a firs-person perspective horror RPG game and a point-and-click adventure. Now I personally love to have at least two types of genres mixed together into one, like mixing an RPG with RTS elements, which has been done in Sacrifice. The mix that this game has to offer is well executed, but just with some things I did not like. The plot of the game is that Elvira wishes to restore the castle she inherited to its former glory and eventually transform it into a tourist attraction for horror fans. However, she has inadvertently returned to life her ancient ancestor, the Satan-worshipping sorceress Queen Emelda the Evil. It's your job to help Elvira restore her powers in order to defeat this evil. The graphics are good for an early '90's game, but it could have used some voice acting because I hate reading the dialog. And don't tell that it couldn't have been done because there are section where we actually hear Elvira talk. There is even a thing that I hate about the controls. It's a minor complaint but it need to be adressed: you don't use your arrow key to move. Instead, you have to click some arrows on the UI in order to move. I can understand that you must click arrow for turning or going up or down the stairs, but not for moving. All in all, if you can look past these complaints that I mentioned and did not mention, you might enjoy this one.
