Homeworld is a real-time strategy game developed by Relic Entertainmant, who later developed the sequel, Homeworld 2, and most of the Warhammer 40,000 games, and published by Sierra. Homeworld is probably is one of the best space RTS game out there and the very first one in the genre I have ever played. The story is quite simple, but it gets interesting as you progress: a race known as the Kushan were defeated in a war and now they're seeking a planet Hiigara, which they refer to as "home". The single player campaign consists of 16 missions and focuses on a persistent fleet concept, meaning that every ship and resources that you saved from your previous mission are carried over to the next, which is a great and helpful concept. The gameplay is breathtaking, offering you busy hours of game-time and also lots of epic space battles. The concept of base building is changed here, meaning that instead of buildings, you will be building expansions for your mothership. These can be hangars, research facilities and so on. The game might be hard for anyone who isn't quite familiar with the genre, because, unlike in most RTS games where the only strategy most gamers use is sending in the strongest units, here every unit has its strong and weakpoints and strongest ones may be defeated by ones you may consider weaker. The graphics and attention to detail are beautiful, but the soundtrack is outstanding! Overall, Homeworld is a great introduction to the space RTS genre and every gamer who will play it, will find it hard to stop playing it.
