Monty Python's Quest for The Holy Grail

Adventure 1996 Dos 7th Level Myth and legend Humorous

Not as funny as the name would have you suggest...

The British kind of humor that the TV series and the Monty Python movies had is a bit lost in translations in this game here... It's just that the game doesn't really know what to do and so it does quite a few things; it does minigames, it does classic adventure, it does absurd little sketches that pertain to the movie series that have abysmal interactivity which mostly just gets in the way. I get it, they wanted to do a silly game, but they sort of forgot that a game needs to settle to a groove, needs to be precise, funny or not. Nope, this one is a mess most of time, and it also is a lazy game, very little polished, very non ergonomic and just too punk in attitude. I mean, I get it, you want to tell a story at times, but 10 minutes of seeing a skull flap with only two frames of animations can be a bit tyring. And that's the bottom line, until the punchlines hit you, boredom does. Avoid, unless you're ready to put up with very low standards of game design. I suggest you play a proper adventure game, funny but well produced, say, Leisure Suit Larry 6, which might have some rude bits here and there, but it's at least a respectable game mechanically and graphically

A great movie-based game

Monty Python's Quest for The Holy Grail is a videogame adaptation of the 1975 movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Developed by 7th Level, this is one the games that stays away from the "bad movie game" label. It's faithful to the movie it's based on, it offers great humour and plenty of other great stuff. The story of the game is the same as in the movie: the adventures of King Arthur and his knight of the round table to find the Holy Grail. The game is played in a point-and-click fashion, with some full motion videos thrown in. THe controls are simple: you need to explore, pick up items, use them and solve puzzles. The humour in the game is great, however there are some violent scenes in the game, like a black devil cutting a man in two, a scene that nobody would ever suspect in a game based on a comedy.
