Don't take your eyes off your screen!
Sonic 3 is one of the speedier Sonic games
out there. But not only that: it is also a really well produced game, with very diverse levels, with really interesting loops and binds and other game additions that really make this a joy to play and replay. While the first two titles only sort of wiggled their way around faster and more dynamic sidescrolling, this third game is really all about the speed run. You'll notice that the levels are build to take advantage of a speed freak player's hedgehog, and you'll get the most out of every level (coin wise and enjoyment wise) if you just put your head into this play style. Graphically you can't really ask for much else: just well drawn 2D, that is so designed to not disturb you off of your speedy run. Thus, while standing the backgrounds might look a bit shabby and uninspired, but at the speed of light, you'll thank the developers for not really overdoing it. It is rare that a game can reach a level where both the game design, gameplay wise and architecture, level design wise, is all geared towards speed, but this third title does it. Want another game that makes use of the same mechanics? Sonic CD
should be it, a 16 bit (on speed!) era looking game but otherwise offering the same speed crazed gameplay of this 3rd game here. Play tehm both, but not before having a laaaarge cup of coffee!
