Later Ultima series RPG with nice graphics

The game had already reached the age of post 16 bit graphics, having been released in 1993, a period when 3D games were quite common. However, the top down isometric view of the world was not abandoned, and it didn't really matter. This is a lighter RPG in terms of mechanics and in terms of its overarching difficulty level. This is so because the game managed to keep quests simpler by adding more hints within the dialogues, and within each setting, so the feeling of being lost and not knowing what to do is no longer present in this one. Therefore, if you want a modern Ultima series game, this can be a great choice, if you don't want to hassle with lots of interface elements and get lost in heavy walkthroughs. You still get to take your party with you later on, which will consist of up to 6 members, but you are given the time to accommodate to the controls and at each step you get a tutorial like mission, to make sure you've learned the basic mechanics. Certainly not the best story Ultima has ever told, but definitely an easier adventure for rookies of the series or of classic RPGs in general.

Outstanding Game.

Although this Ultima is a departure from the previous entries revolving around Britannia and Lord British, it sets up a unique and interesting mythology complete with complex, warring ideologies. The party system (one of the best features of the Ultima series) remains intact and the Avatar's oldest companions accompany him/her to the mysterious Serpent Isle. The character pages have been updated with attractive sprites, there is a brand new party status screen, and training now involves actual combat. If you enjoyed the Ultima series, Ultima 7: Part 2 is, in my opinion, the absolute best of the bunch. With multiple detailed, unique new areas and outstanding writing, Serpent Isle is one of the best RPGs ever made.
