One of the first Warhammer 40k strategy games

The Warhammer universe has spawned a myriad strategies, RPG games, action games as well as genuine tabletop games, and has had many confused in regards to the setting itself. There are 2 different timelines in the universe: one that is set in the far away future and another one in a medieval like past. The game here will see you battling as a merc, trying to put an end to the domination and the conquest wants of the skaven, a rat like set of creatures which try to dominate the world. Mechanically, the game feels like a modern RTS. You get to construct buildings, you get to order different types of units around, and, at a higher hierarchical level, you get to dictate what type of emergent strategy to use in whichever scenario you are pitting yourself against. The top down perspective allows you to have enough of an insight into the battlefield, and will not feel stifling most of the times, though, certainly, you will make use of the minimap quite extensively. At any rate, for what it's worth, the game delivers a good experience and will see your strategic muscles bend and twist.

Difficult since the beginning = challenging RTS!

The Warhammer series is best know for its 40k series of RTS games. There was even a fantasy themed game in the series that was hyped to know end, but there was another medieval themed game in the series that just recently I have discovered. It's Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat. The game is based on Games Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy Battle. In the game, you assume the role of a mercenary general and your mission is to stop a plot made by the Skaven, which are rat-like creatures. In between mission, you're always given a choice of missions to accept, offering multiple paths to complete the game. One sure thing I have to say about this game is that it gets very hard really quickly. This is unfortunate, because it isn't fair in most parts and you would lose units faster than you could say "Charge!". The graphics are interesting, because the attempted to make a 3D environment and the sound effect are rather good. Overall, if you like hard games or games that hard really quickly, you should check this game out.
