A dark sci-fi enjoyable for all ages
Ripper is a mystery adventure game released in 1996 by Take-Two Interactive Software Inc., a leader company that develops and publishes notable titles through its owned labels Rockstar Games and 2K. The action takes place in New York, in a futuristic environment, more exactly, in the year 2040. The buildings didn't seem futuristic to me at all, bu I will skip this aspect. You play as Jack Quinlan, a reporter who has to solve a series of horrible murders. The cast brings Christopher Walken, whose acting was extremely criticised, but I guess his annoying role was confused with a bad acting. I say this because I found his performance pretty good, so I don't agree with other reviewers. The story and gameplay combine perfectly the dark science-fiction nature, the crimes, the solving of the puzzles and the intented strange acting. I inform you that if you find yourself stuck in a mission, you can switch both combat and puzzles to an easy mode anytime. Also, you can switch to a difficult setting if you think the puzzles are way too easy to solve. This is the kind of game that will keep you stuck in front of the computer for a long time, with its captivating story (at which it excels), great setup and interesting background. As another positive conclusion, I will say that Ripper is enjoyable for players of all ages!
