Ishido

Puzzle 1990 Dos Publishing International Board games

Similar to Go but more...deceitful!

Ishido is a well produced, well delivered technically, game; in terms of the way it is constructed. It emulates a board game from Japan, of the same name, and the rules are the same. What you have to do is to take turns and fill the grid of the game with stones. The one to have the most stones on the table at any one time wins. You can place a new stone each round, o the table, as long as the stone in its immediate vicinity has the same color or shares the same name. So, basically, this is a cunning game where you have to plot ahead of time, manage for the future unknown and, generally, make sure you get to the end. It looks like a very automated game, but the fact is, you have to think things in perspective, and plot your advancement smart, and, also you have to con your adversary into thinking that they have an advantage over you, so that they will make a mistake! Yep, Japanese tabletops are very interesting, and have always had something original or innovative to showcase, and this one is by no means an exception! Play it if you like Go games but want something a bit more deceitful!
