This sequel to the original Rollercoaster Tycoon is pretty similar to its predecessor but improves on some of the issues the previous game had, making this the one to go for if you're interested in creating your own theme park rides. It makes an interesting companion piece to other titles like Roller Coaster Factory and SimCity and stands as a pretty enjoyable experience. As before, you're the manager of a theme park and it's your job to take control of just about every aspect of the park and turn it into a thriving success. You'll have to place everything from restrooms to restaurants while managing staff and ensuring that your rides are both exciting and safe. You have a wide range of rides to choose from, including dodgems, go-karts and of course roller coasters, but to get the good stuff, you have to work your way up with the less thrilling stuff until you can afford the real crowdpleasers. You can play through a series of scenarios which give you certain tasks to complete, while there's also a scenario editor and a roller coaster designer, which add in some interesting elements to the game. As far as city building games go, this is pretty decent stuff. It's not a great leap on from the original, with tweaks to the AI and other minor changes, so if you've played that one, you can probably skip this and try one of the later efforts like RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 instead. However, for newcomers to the series, this is an enjoyable experience, with plenty of challenge and variety which combine to make an addictive little game.
