Days of Thunder

Racing 1990 Dos Dosbox Mindscape Driving Action based

Barebones oval circuit racer in 3D

Days of Thunder is a bit of a disappointment, though it sure has its charms. It is a 3D Nascar racer that is pretty barebones, in that it only offers you the least that it can. The 3D is pretty unimpressive, the world of the game is made up of barely a few colors and polygons and the controls, while snappy are quite imprecise, as if stolen from a front advancing 2D sprite based type of game. Also, there is not much diversity in circuits. It's all about left turns, as Nascar racing has it, but then again, like I said this portion of the game is not fun, because you can't precision control your vehicle. So after a few races, all of which with you in the last positions, you will find out that Days of Thunder is just not really that worth it. Granted it can be a great fix for someone returning to it for nostalgia related reasons, but for all of us it's just a short lived, frustrating business from one end to the finish. So, all things considered, I'd say skip it, go for another oldie, just as hard a game to play, still in very primitive 3D, but a way more fun experience: Indianapolis 500.
