Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns

Strategy 2001 Windows Loki Entertainment Software Fantasy Real time

Fantasy real time strategy game; very detailed

Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns is one of the best real time strategy games with fantasy overtones, a game that offers you beautiful 2D graphics, super smart AI and confrontations that really put you through your paces, without the AI cheating or a lot of pre-scripted events. Overall, compared to a title such as StarCraft, Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns is not a game where the units are as diverse between factions. Nope, the way the game is balanced is pretty symmetric, but still, due to the larger maps, the high number of units and the unbalanced distribution of resources on the maps each skirmish will be quite diverse and very interesting. Another aspect that is worth looking into is the possibility to stop the action at any time, especially when a heated skirmish takes place, to direct and redirect the fire at a moment's notice, so you may be able to get a hold of the enemies units. Also, the Kohan series has been faithful to its lore, as it is in this game, so the backstory might entice you as well, if you like medieval fantasy themed worlds. So, for real time strategist, this is certainly one of the best early 2000s games to download and play.
