Realms of Arkania - Blade of Destiny

RPG 1992 Dos Dosbox Attic Entertainment Software Fantasy First person

A true role-playing game with a special atmosphere

Realms of Arkania - Blade of Destiny is a role-playing fantasy game released in 1992 by Attic Entertainment Software, a company that met success with the Northlands Trilogy, a series of RPGs based upon the reputed German game Das Schwarze Auge. The game has up to six characters, each with their own atributes and skills. They go on an adventure, in order to explore a land named Aventurien, in various towns and dungeons. The interface design is inspired from the games called Eye of the Beholder and Might and Magic III. As a starter concerning the nature of this game, I will say it's still enjoyable to play even nowadays, mostly because it contains in an harmonius manner all the RPG elements, taking the fundamental principles that lead to excellence. The fact that Blade of Destiny isn't modern, makes it more appreciable. The true entertainment lays in the permission to explore a lot, any location you want. And this high amount of investigation offers Realms of Arkania - Blade of Destiny replayability. The graphics aren't that dreadful to make you give up the gameplay, and some elements are quite well-drawn. Although I suggest you should play this game with the sounds disabled, because the music is tedious and monotonous, that never varies. If you want a true role-playing game that has a special atmosphere, this is the game you are looking for!
