Vampyr: The Talisman of Invocation

RPG 1990 Dos Dosbox Top down Fantasy

A good Ultima tribute

Vampyr: The Talisman of Invocation takes the similar road of top down role players from the early Ultima period, and for those that loved the Ultima series (especially the first few games in the series) this game will feel almost like home. Vampyr: The Talisman of Invocation has a few really nice locations to go through (which hide simple yet unexpected puzzles) but most of the time the thing you'll be playing is a game of knowing where to head next and of making sure you remember what your current quest is. (Do have pen and paper or some other form of taking notes at the ready, for good measure!) Yap, that can be a deal breaker for some, though I thoroughly love the idea of having to pay attention to what NPCs have to say. The combat is your tactical mathematical game of using the right party member at the right time, and the weaponry is your usual roaster of medieval fantasy game, with spells and with magic, to choose as you find fit. At any rate, if you love the black backgrounds types of graphical look in RPGs, you might also enjoy Dark Designs II Closing the Gate, so have this one close as well when sampling Vampyr: The Talisman of Invocation.
